In his capacity as an independent wine judge, John has participated in wine events throughout Australia, the United States, New Zealand and the United Kingdom. James has been conducting fortified lectures at Adelaide University since 1984. He has judged at every capital city wine show over the past 33 years and is the current Chair of the Hobart Wine Show Committee. James served on the Barossa Wine Show committee for 25 years being Chair for 8 of those years. James was awarded Winestate Winemaker of the Year in 1999 and has been inducted as a Baron of the Barossa. He was promoted to Senior Winemaker Seppeltsfield in 1981, Manager / Winemaker Barossa Wineries 1984, Manager / Winemaker Seppelt Wineries 1988 and to Group Fortified Winemaker in 1990 following the Penfolds takeover.Īs Group Fortified Winemaker James is responsible for the production, maturation, stock balance and maintenance of style integrity and quality for all fortified brands within TWE. She makes small parcels of fruit from 1T primarily for herself and some contract work for local growers wanting to start their own brands.
